U.S. Has Made Little Progress in Cyber Security: Mostly Big Promises and Political Posturing?
The National Security Cyberspace Institute (NSCI) today issued a report saying that despite all the talk and investment into cyber security, we have actually made very little progress in making US networks more secure. According to the study, “despite the numerous studies and recommendations, ongoing planning, increased spending, and a host of other activities over the last several years, there has been little significant progress made in securing cyberspace as a result of U.S. Government action.”
So, does this mean that our nation’s cyber security efforts, to date, have been mostly big promises and political posturing? That is certainly what the report says – very clearly. Of course, things move slowly in Washington, D.C. and, well, it took a very long time for the Obama Administration to name the cyber security czar. Well, I guess it’s now up to Howard Schmidt to kick it in high gear and get things done. What do you think?
