The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is crediting this facial recognition technology for 21 identity fraud arrests during a May crackdown.]]> You all may recall our recent coverage of the new facial recognition software being used at DMVs in four states that requires a “neutral facial expressions” in driver’s license photos — in an effort to potentially prevent identity theft and fraud.  Well, the new system actually works.  The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is crediting this facial recognition technology for 21 identity fraud arrests during a May crackdown.

Although the DMV’s facial recognition software had been criticized in recent weeks, following a USA Today report that blamed the technology for a law banning smiles in drivers license photos, it does seem to be working. So, now the logical question is…when will this technology be used in all 50 states?
