The truth is, it's been around for a long time. Classic literature is full of characters who assume another identity for love, for money or for revenge. Think of Rosalind in Shakespeare's "As You Like It," who disguises herself as a young man to win love and recover her birthright.

The truth is, it’s been around for a long time. Classic literature is full of characters who assume another identity for love, for money or for revenge. Think of Rosalind in Shakespeare’s “As You Like It,” who disguises herself as a young man to win love and recover her birthright.

You could call the Trojan horse a case of group identity theft since it allowed Greek soldiers to enter Troy by hiding inside. Sir Francis Walsingham was the first covert spy under Queen Elizabeth I, and the list goes on and on…

What’s your favorite example of identity theft from literature or history? The person who posts the most interesting and unusual case will win a free one-year subscription to ITAC Sentinel Plus.

ITAC Sentinel Plus delivers 3-in-1 credit bureau monitoring and alerts, daily internet surveillance, and ITAC’s outstanding identity theft recovery.

What is mostly unknown about this services, is that it is not exactly free. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently pointed this out in its new series of spoof videos — aiming to get consumers to go to the government-approved annualcreditreport.com (which is actually free). Here are the videos. Hope you enjoy and we welcome your feedback on the videos:
