St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa Tries to Sue Twitter Over ID Theft

larussaThe latest wave of identity theft seems to be taking place in the social media world, and the targets are often high-profile people. Think about it…it is way too easy for someone to set up a fake Twitter handle for a celebrity, politician, and even a sports manager. Heck. It happens all the time…there must have been 15 fake Barack Obama Twitter handles during the election alone. Well, one public figure, Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa, is waging a legal war with Twitter when he found out that someone set up a fake Twitter account under his name.

What do you all think about this? Legally public figures are pretty much fair game – more so when it comes to press coverage. In addition, there was no financial harm done to LaRussa. On the flip side, some of the Tweets were very inappropriate and could be damaging to his reputation. Read more here and let us know what you think!

All user names should up for grabs to anyone….until you post as if you were that person (eg there could be another Tony La Russa out there), as soon as that happens and the real Tony La Russa asks Twitter to turn over that username it should happen without question.

Knowem is a great service, we used this page to register all the usernames we wanted for http://www.LiveBaseballChat.com even though we probably wont use them.
