FCC Loses Key Ruling on Internet ‘Neutrality’; What’s Going to Happen to the Broadband Plan?

The Associated Press just broke a story about how the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia threw the future of Internet regulations and U.S. broadband expansion plans into doubt by ruling that the FCC lacks the authority to require broadband providers to give equal treatment to all Internet traffic flowing over their networks.

The ruling marks a serious setback for the FCC, which is trying to adopt official net neutrality regulations. The FCC believes that such rules are needed to prevent phone and cable companies from using their control over Internet access to favor some online content and services over others.

As our readers know, we applauded the public safety portion of the FCC Broadband Plan, which calls for steps to improve cyber security and the national infrastructure. Broadband service providers stand to win big from the plan and It begs the question, what are broadband service providers doing to promote the safety of individual users?

Clearly they are doing nothing. Based on the news of this the net neutrality fight is more important in their eyes than protecting the consumer from cyber crime. We welcome all thoughts and comments.
