Defcon News: Annual Hacker Event Hacked

In surely what could be considered an ironic twist, the annual hacker conference Defcon experienced an identity theft hack. Surely, we are not surprised by this considering the caliber of folks who attend this event: actual hackers. Well, not all attendees are on the wrong side of the law. The word is that attendance is a mixed back of the good, bad and in between. Also, members of law enforcement attend the event.

It was reported that someone planted a real rigged malicious ATM right outside the security office of the Riviera Hotel and Casino. Guess what happened next? A conference attendee decided to withdraw some cash from the ATM and he got an error message. Being a Defcon attendee, this person immediately realized that he was a target of an ATM skimming scam right outside of the convention location.
